About me

chris hand

I believe in web standards and open source development.

I wrote this site from scratch in XHTML and CSS, using PHP, GNU emacs and Ubuntu Linux.

My name is Chris Hand. I'm a designer, technologist and educator based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I'm particularly interested in device art, physical/tangible computing, fiction in art & design, hacking electronics, expressive and performance interfaces, social aspects of hardware and software (including open source), music technology, and lots of other things that I write about on my blog plus six.

I spent a number of years teaching techie computing subjects and later interactive media design in various universities, along with freelance design work. I recently went back to college for two years to do a masters in design interactions at the royal college of art, and graduated in June 2007.

In March 2008 I took up a lecturing post in the design group within the School of Creative Industries at Napier University.

In addition to teaching and research I undertake freelance/contract work, specialising in prototyping and design of interactive electronic products. I also enjoy running workshops and hacklabs. If you're interested please see my CV or my profile on LinkedIn and get in touch.
